U.S. Muslims raise funds for vandalized Jewish cemeteries

Two American Muslims set a goal of raising $20,000 to help restore the Jewish cemeteries vandalized in St. Louis and Philadelphia last week. In just three hours they had surpassed that goal, and within a week over 4,600 Muslims had donated nearly $140,000 for the cause.

The fundraisers, Linda Sarsour and Tarek El-Messidi, expressed their concerns:

“Through this campaign, we hope to send a united message from the Jewish and Muslim communities that there is no place for this type of hate, desecration, and violence in America.

“We pray that this restores a sense of security and peace to the Jewish-American community who has undoubtedly been shaken by this event.”

This gesture of love and support is how Americans are countering the rise of hatred in all forms in the new political environment. Help someone cross the street or, if you’re behind the wheel, give a pedestrian more time to cross. Now, more than ever, practice, Random Acts of Kindness.
